I remember “The Sword in the Stone” as a widescreen movie, so I was dismayed to get that Disney had released this enchanting popular to DVD in a cropped/pan-and-scan format. However, on further investigation, I discovered that, to my surprise, “The Sword in the Stone” was not a widescreen motion describe… at least not originally. Apparently, like “101 Dalmations” and other films of the slack 1950s and early 1960s, “The Sword in the Stone” was made to be projected in one of two formats: either widescreen or full-frame, depending on the theater where it was shown. It seems that the Disney animators designed the film with a bit of ‘extra picture’ at the top and bottom of each frame; that intention this ‘extra’ could be slice off without ruining the image in theaters playing it in widescreen. In other theaters, and on television, the film could be shown in a standard full-frame (1.33:1) format. So, according to Disney, the new full-frame DVD of “TSITS” is indeed the film in it’s “new format’. Admittedly, it may not be the scheme that most of us remember this broad cramped movie, but it is the procedure the folks at Disney made it.

Sometime in the medieval ages, there is a story about this magic stone that contains a sword and according to the memoir, who so pulls out the sword from the anvil shall become king of all England. Though many tried to pull it, no miracle and the sword was forgotten for ages in an age of no laws, brutality and darkness in unbiased which magician Merlin has peril with the days of no kings, he then meets a young squire named “Wart” ( a.k.a. Arthur) whom is a problemic young man with a mean foster father and colossal foster brother, Merlin then trains Wart through education in order to become more social and on adventures that will lead him to pull the sword out of the stone.

An underrated disney classic that is a exquisite epic with satisfactory animation for it’s time, nice songs like “Higitus Figitus” and humor makes this a sure must have for the animation DVD collector everywhere.

#24- THE DIRECTOR’S CUT

#25- The Current Version

#26- The Modern Version

There is NO director’s lop for episodes 25 and 26. If you already purchased the Platinum Collection Boxed Status, then you already have ALL of the episodes that are on this seventh disk. For some reason they organized the single disks differently than the Boxed Spot, and therefore there are seven seperate single disks and only six disks in the Boxed Area.

DON’T assume this disk if you are looking for extra episodes that they didn’t squeeze into the Boxed Dwelling. The Boxed Site contains all the current episodes of the series, and it also contains the director’s carve for episodes 21, 22, 23, and 24. There’s nothing else available anywhere.

The unusual demolish of the series (episodes 25 and 26) was unsatisfactory to many fans, and so the director reworked the ending in the make of TWO movies. They are NOT included in the boxed dwelling. You can recall them seperately, or they also advance in a two-pack box. The first movie is called “Death and Rebirth,” and the second movie is “The Slay of Evangelion.” They are both qualified films, and befriend as an lively and thought-provoking alternative to the fresh ending of the series.

Needless to say, this series is the best that anime has to offer. All the astounding action and animation is perfectly complimented by a mix of intricate characters and philosophies. Neon Genesis Evangelion is as great about tackling the nature of the soul as it is about giant alien creatures getting killed by giant robot things. It’s improbable.

I made the mistake of thinking I was gyped out of some of the episodes when I bought the Platinum Collection boxed place (which has “Collection” disks 1-6) . So I bought Platinum Collection 7 thinking I would now have the director’s cuts of some more episodes, but it turns out the boxed station unbiased consolidates Collection disks 1-7 into 6 disks. Amazon.com let me return it, but I had to pay for shipping. Oh well, lesson learned. I conception you all might learn from my mistake.

Welcome to the wonderfully wacky world of the Coen brothers. Joel and Ethan Coen are two of the most intellectual filmmakers in America today. Every film they turn out is a cinematic gem, and “Barton Fink” is no exception.

The film centers around a slightly pompous, idealistic, left fly playwright, Barton Fink (John Turturro), who in 1941, after becoming the toast of Broadway as the pretentious speak of the popular man, goes west to Hollywood at the invitation of a major studio in order to try his hand at writing screenplays.

There, he meets studio head, Jack Lipnick (Michael Lerner), and his yes man and whipping boy, Lou Travel (Jon Polito) . Asked to write a screenplay for a Wallace Beery vehicle about wrestling, a subject about which the bookish Fink knows nothing about, causes Fink to go into a professional tailspin.

Ensconced in a decaying feeble hotel, seemingly race by its slightly creepy and unctuous bell hop, Chet (Steve Buscemi), who bizarrely appears on the scene out of a trapdoor leisurely the hotel’s front desk, Fink begins his ordeal . The elevator is bustle by a cadaverous, pock marked, elderly man. The corridors of the hotel seem endless. The wallpaper in Fink’s room is peeling away from the wall, leaving a viscous, damp ooze in its wake. His bed creaks and groans with a life of its contain. It is also hot, oppressively hot.

No residents of the hotel are apparent, except for the appearance of shoes outside the doors in expectation of the free shoe shine the hotel offers its denizens and for the noise made by his neighbors. Finks meets one of his neighbors, the portly Charlie Meadows (John Goodman), a gregarious Everyman, possessed of an abundance of bonhomie. A self-styled insurance salesman, Charlie cajoles Fink out of his shell, befriending him in the process. Exiguous does Fink know that beneath Charlie’s congenial exterior lies a horrific secret that will spillover onto him in the not so distant future.

At a luncheon with studio under boss, Ben Geisler (Tony Shalhoub), Fink meets a eminent writer that he reveres, W. P. Mayhew (John Mahoney), a southern sot so steeped in drink that his companion/secretary, Audrey Taylor (Judy Davis), has to do his writing for him. Fink falls for Audrey but finds his overtures rebuffed. Level-headed, she is willing to try and assist him overcome his profound writer’s block. In a classic Coen twist, it is this single act of kindness that acts as the catalyst for the nightmare that makes Fink’s life become a living hell on earth. He goes from living a life of self-imposed isolation and angst to one that appears to have been created by a Hollywood hack, filled as it is with the most wonderful situations, a exact studio head’s dream.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Barton Fink! Click Here

John Turturro is terrific as the introverted, tightly harm, pretentious, and neurotic Fink, who in Hollywood, away from the womb of the Vast White Blueprint, is like a lamb led to the slaughter. With his sculpted afro, horn rimmed glasses, nerdy clothes, Fink is the stereotypic Hollywood conception of the commie writer. John Turturro makes the role his with a purposeful intensity.

John Goodman is sensational as the garrulous Charlie Meadow, the epitome of the working class man about whom Fink likes to write. Unfortunately, all is not as it seems, as Charlie has a shaded side to him, a very dismal side. John Mahoney is honorable as the Faulknerian-like writer, and Judy Davis outdoes herself, as the self-sacrificing Audrey Taylor.

Michael Lerner will razzle-dazzle the viewer with his over the top portrayal of a swiftly talking studio head who is willing to pay gargantuan bucks for the cache of having a top Broadway playwright turn out screenplay swill for the masses. Jon Polito is very top-notch as the Uriah Heepish, quintessential yes man he portrays. Tony Shalhoub is advantageous in his role, underscoring the absurdity of the old-fashioned Hollywood studio system.

Steve Buscemi, looking surprisingly little in his bell hop uniform, resembles an organ grinder’s monkey, at times. The viewer may also quiz him to shout, “Call for Phillip Morris”, as in the aged cigarette campaign, though he speaks in a controlled, respectful monotone, at all times. Detached, his very presence adds a slightly unpleasant quality to the film, though he does nothing remotely contaminated, other than the procedure he makes his hide appearance. His entrance onto the camouflage in this fashion foreshadows what is to approach.

This film is not for everyone, as it does not have a neatly wrapped ending. Instead, it goes beyond the standard expected ending into an absurdist foray. Tranquil, those who like films by the Coen Brothers will not be disappointed by this satiric study at Hollywood. It is cramped wonder that this film became the darling of the Cannes Film Festival.

For a long time, the absurdist masterpiece Barton Fink was only available in a dingy VHS release. It was better than nothing, but this film deserved better. Thankfully, it’s here – in all its stupefying glory.

I won’t relate the epic. Plenty of other reviews do that. Not long ago I was tempted to justify it. That tranquil seems a genuine course, as there is a proper sense that, beneath its silly, surreal surface, Barton Fink is trying to lisp us something urgent and essential. Perhaps, but the primal forces in a writer’s mind as s/he shapes a stout memoir do that, anyway – often without the writer’s specific knowledge.

Rather than a simple allegory, Barton Fink is a collection of surfaces, styles, textures, and mannerisms. That they seem to add up to more than the sum of their parts is the enormous trick, akin to the diagram a painter can suggest the dappled depths of a forest with a few deft pats of a fan brush. Which isn’t to say the film is shallow. No; there is a lot going on here. But to suggest that this film has a specific meaning is also to suggest it has an reply. Only mediocre films (by the likes of, say, Stanley Kramer or Oliver Stone) provide answers in a attempt to originate themselves more distinguished. The Coens (writer Ethan, director Joel), like most of us, haven’t a clue about the Mysteries of Life. So they don’t try to “…narrate us something about all of us, something heavenly…” as Fink himself professes. Instead, they delight in “…making things up…”, like the other writer in the film, the Faulkneresque W.P. Mayhew (played to perfection by John Mahoney) .

Somewhere in here, though, the sleight-of-hand, the postmodern flourishes (wherein genres clash and surfaces spill over one another in unexpected ways), cracks appear. Through them we ogle something else…something truly shocking.

Barton Fink’s resonances with the Holocaust are renowned (the harmful and Fascistic German and Italian cops, the Jewish Fink, the burning hallway, the story’s year – 1941, the nice guy next door – also with a German name – who turns out to be a madman; on and on) . These touches cannot be accidental. Yet, the Coens seem to have deliberately avoided any positive throughline, any markers which would provide for a positive interpretation.

Perhaps this is the point – that there is no plan to construct sense of the madness. Barton Fink, the character, is a writer who tries to celebrate the “well-liked man” – to write about “proper life”. Yet, loyal life is incomprehensible to him. Nice Guy Charlie Meadows (the well-behaved John Goodman) is a bent murderer. His idol is a raving drunk. His muse is a purveyor of formula hackery. The authorities are openly anti-semitic. And his bosses – Lipnick (Michael Lerner) and Geisler (Tony Shalhoub) – are utterly indifferent to his craft. The events that unfold around him are too horrifying and unusual to invent sense of. Simply build, they cannot be explained by any rational interpretation. Which, if this film is really a parable of the Holocaust, is as it should be, since there is no rationale in genocide.

When it comes to “making things up”, no one does it better than the Coens. Their skill in marshalling symbols is sublime: Mayhew’s latest book is called “Nebuchadnezzar”; Lipnick, like king Nebuchadnezzar, has a dream he wants Fink to elaborate (the wrestling film he’s writing for Wallace Beery) . At a distinguished point in the film, a dazed, sleepless Fink opens the Gideon bible to the page where Nebuchadnezzar threatens to cut the Chaldeans’ tents to a dung-heap if someone cannot elaborate his dream. He flips to Genesis, and there, on the page, is the opening of his screenplay – the only fraction of it he’s been able to write. It’s a radiant sequence, that truly adds up. Lipnick is Nebuchadnezzar; Fink is trying to be Daniel. There is (literally) Hell to pay if he cannot do the job.

Beyond a few moments like these, though, trying to impose a specific meaning on Barton Fink is folly – like trying to impose a specific meaning on any of Luis Bunuel’s better films. There is something about it that, like Lynch’s best work, goes just past the rational self and nestles more deeply in the unconscious. I collect something from every viewing of this film, and share of its beauty is that I cannot explain exactly what that is.

This DVD is nicely produced, with Roger Deakins’ fine cinematography looking better than ever, and Dolby Surround sound track well reproduced. A 5.1 re-mix would have been welcome, as would a serious commentary track, should the Coens ever be able to bring themselves around to doing one that doesn’t skedaddle fun of commentary tracks.

John Turturro is worthy as the title character. Judy Davis acquits herself nicely as Mayhew’s secretary/lover/ghost-writer.

This is one of those films that’s worth really thinking about, and watching again and again. Don’t quiz answers; quiz an experience – and a much one at that.

On the books this film is a giallo, but it is only in the most basic sense. Yeah it’s a abolish mystery, it deals with sexual themes and it’s Italian. That’s where all comparissons raze though. No rampaging killer with gloves and a hat/hood and no right body count to tell of other than the Pyjama girl herself. Clear there are a few more deaths, but not until the ruin of the film. There are basically two plotlines running throughout the film. The first is the investigation into the stupid woman that’s led by two detectives(one of them Ray Milland) . Once the second place begins, it ends up taking up about 75% of the film. This deals with the yummy Dalila Di Lazzaro(yummy except for the armpit hair) trying to juggle three lovers. She sleeps with unprejudiced about everyone but awful Milland. The film delicate noteworthy becomes a drama in the Lifetime Recent Movie vein. No suspense, no killer stalking anyone. In fact, as you accumulate more and more tangled into the yarn, you nearly forget there was a destroy mystery at the heart of all this! Ray Milland seems to honest diappear about an hour into the film. Before you know it, you’re asking yourself, “Hey, wasn’t Ray Milland in this film? ” It’s like Milland only had a two day shooting schedule and his time ran out before director Mogherini could shoot all his scenes. His character is silly though. Even with my complaints, I was never bored with this movie, objective not terribly impressed. But if anyone should earn it tiresome, you can always dance around your living room to the funky Riz Ortolani accept. The disc has a half hour documentary about the valid Pyjama girl kill case which is actually more spicy than the film.

“The Pyjama Girl Case” disappointed me for several reasons. First, and foremost, it is not a proper Italian giallo. Absent is the typical black-gloved serial killer. Only two people are murdered. Second, this movie doesn’t own any major shocks or space twists. The space is very linear. Third, there is only one handsome woman and that is actress Dalila Di Lazzaro who later went on to act in Dario Argento’s suited “Phenomena,” which is definitely an Italian giallo.

Based on a good, unsolved crime, “The Pyjama Girl Case” centers around the badly burned body of a young woman found on an Australian beach. Ray Milland (of “Man with X-ray Eyes” and “Frogs”) does an suitable job of portraying Canadian detective Thompson. While he investigates the cancel, the proper events of what led to the discovery of the corpse are told in flashbacks. The victim, we learn, is a waitress named Linda who had several lovers. Eventually she marries a waiter while continuing to have other relations. I didn’t feel too sympathetic towards her. The scene where she has sex for money with two older, overweight gentlemen was particularly improper and slimy; it should’ve been omitted.

The interview with the author Richard Evans who wrote the suitable life legend of the Pyjama Girl was more consuming and palatable than this movie. It was like watching an episode of “60 Minutes.” Exact photographs of the burned corpse of the Pyjama Girl were shown. Details were given concerning who she may have been.

The reproduction of the droll book, “Taboo,” containing a sage about the Pyjama Girl was hard to read. The print was very shrimp.

The soundtrack is grand. Music was scored by Riz Ortolani who also provided astonishing scores for Armando Crispino`s “The Plain Are Alive” and Lucio Fulci’s “Perversion Sage.”

The music net and the author interview compelled me to give this movie three stars in lieu of two. However, I strongly rush that you rent “The Pyjama Girl Case” before purchasing. It left me very unfulfilled.

Bought this dvd in our horrible PX on Xmas. I had watched this while doing night shift in the commo cell, and I couldn’t terminate cracking up. The homage to George Romero with Dennis Hopper (who played in Romero’s “Land of the Insensible”) and General Patton fighting ACLU zombies was priceless. The performances of Robert Davi, Serdar Kalsin, and Geoffrey Arend as the terrorists, Aziz, Ahmed, and Mohammed were wonderfully rememnisant of the frail World War II-era Three Stooges classics like “They Stooge To Conga” where the Stooges lampooned the Nazis impartial as Davi, Kalsin, and Arend lampoons the IslamoNazis. The University scene was all too right, especially with my experience in college dealing with faculty who were composed stuck in the ’60’s. And finally, Note Atkins’ “Angel of Death” and the scene of Hollywood after the IslamoNazis lift over was gigantic. Aside from the comedy value, the scenes of alternate history that would have resulted if the advice of Micheal Moore and the liberals was followed, such as in the Civil war or World War II, can fabricate one contemplate.

Buy,Download, Or Stream An American Carol! Click Here

Notable mentions is Kevin Farley’s protrayal as Micheal Moore (Malone) as buffonish, arrogant, hardheaded, selfish, and inconsiderate were true on the designate given reports of Moore’s arrogance in genuine life. Kelsey Grammer was ample as General Patton and Jon Voight’s protrayal of George Washington was really touching. Dennis Hopper was one kindly choice that made the George Romero homage scene work (Ken Forre would have been suitable too and Duane Jones would have been perfect but he’s sadly deceased) and it was a advantageous surprise to gaze regular tough-guy actor Robert Davi can do comedy as a unique day Moe. I don’t question liberals to like it as my dealings with them have shown me that they have no sense of humor whatsoever, but I highly recommend it. I judge it would be best enjoyed with a showing of “Team America.”

The Amazon review above is an generous example of why this movie wasn’t reviewed by the critics who all tend to be very left leaning. Simply, it would have been grossly panned by them. I liked the movie very remarkable. As a matter of fact, the audience in the theatre was laughing hysterically throughout most of the movie. I had tears in my eyes from laughing too hard! Yes, it had a couple of dead moments, as every movie does. It is both animated and refreshing compared to the liberal mantra thats usually presented. Seeing a movie that leans to the true, and sends a few zings to the left was a genuine pleasure. And, a comical movie too!

And I, for one, savor the fact that this prove is somewhat of a time capsule of early-90s clothing and styles. I was in high school when this reveal was on, and it reminds me of those days more than a shrimp bit.

The 26 Season One episodes are hands-down the best in my conception, and hopefully this site will sell like hotcakes thus necessitating a Season Two release. The abbreviated Season Three (only 22 episodes) is a different myth, however. It is famous in tv history as being a classic “shark-jumper”–at the behest of the producer, it changed its name to “Parker Lewis” (losing the “Can’t Lose” moniker) and became more of a vanilla after-school-special type program no longer resembling the irreverent indicate of the first two seasons.

Here are the 26 Season One episodes in broadcast order:

1. Pilot (9/2/90)

2. Operation Kubiak (9/9/90)

3. Power Play (9/16/90)

4. Parker Lewis Must Lose (9/23/90)

5. Finish, But No Guitar (9/30/90)

6. G.A.G. Dance (10/7/90)

7. Love’s a Beast (10/14/90)

8. Saving Grace (10/21/90)

9. Musso & Frank (10/28/90)

10. Deja Dudes (11/4/90)

11. Radio Free Flamingo (11/15/90)

12. Science Resplendent (11/18/90)

13. Teacher, Teacher (12/2/90)

14. Rent-a-Kube (12/16/90)

15. Heather the Class (1/13/91)

16. Jerry: Portrait of a Video Junkie (2/3/91)

17. Splendor in the Class (2/10/91)

18. The Human Grace (2/17/91)

19. Citizen Kube (2/24/91)

20. Randall Without a Cause (3/10/91)

21. Jerry’s First Date (3/24/91)

22. Against the Norm (4/7/91)

23. King Kube (4/28/91)

24. Teens from a Mall (5/5/91)

25. My Gorgeous Shelly (5/12/91)

26. Parker Lewis Can’t Secure (5/19/91)

At long last, Parker Lewis is finally coming to DVD! This truly is one of the best shows ever broadcast on TV and it’s one of the mysteries (and injustices) of the universe that Tell from Saved by the Bell gets a DVD release but quality like Parker Lewis (and Midnight Caller) have to endure fan petitions to obtain a well-deserved DVD release. Now let’s sustain the pressure on for seasons 2 and 3 to be on DVD!

Students life is the period of time that is full of wonderful events, communication, emotions and other stuff. In fact, a student is a man of freedom, as it might be supposed. The question is that life in college suggests more benefits than limitations. Hence, you should better look at the features of students life in college.

Improving identity

1.Release yourself. College is the place where students showcase their features of character, their ability to study well. Nevertheless, students can grow up significantly while studying. Their personalities are going through the process of adulthood. Thus, never stop releasing yourself for the use of the whole college community.

2.Communicate willingly. You may live either at home or in the campus. Thus, you are not separated from an effective communication with peers. Keep it in mind that college is the place where you can have a great leisure time.

Finding out what you like

First of all, you need to ask yourself questions:

What are you good at?

Should you join any of the sports, art, or social communities?

How to keep classes and leisure going on in balance?

The answers on these very questions can lead you toward the way that fits you appropriately. In other words, a student can join different sport sections, such as:

Football;

Volleyball;

Cheerleading.

You can also join various communities of students in accordance with their directions. It is about sororities and fraternities that are so lovely for any student while studying in college.

Asking for more

College is an opportunity for a student to reach out specific tops in education. If someone is not so good at studying sciences, perhaps, he/she is quite perfect in sports activities. It is up to you. The only thing is that you should never stop or delay in college activities. Otherwise, you will enjoy the charms of college life.

Student Life in College: Fraternities and Sororities in College

By Alvin Hanson

The life is difficult when you do not have good friends that help you any time you are in trouble. College life can separate good friends because there is a little chance that your friend being a good dancer will apply for a technical school or college. Some students hope to find good friend in college, while others try to keep connections with the old ones. Making friends is easy, especially if you are a good friend. However, you should not be the same as your new friends only to make them like you. The secrets are always revealed in the least appropriate moment. If you want your new friends to like you because of your sense of humor and funny jokes, you should be yourself.

Being Yourself

It is important to make friends, though being yourself is even more important in the world where every one tries to be original. If you do not want to be confused with another guy/girl wearing a similar hat, you should not copy the clothes of other people, especially those appearing often on television and covers of glamorous magazines. Do not try to copy the image of other people to avoid a misunderstanding. Be yourself and enjoy your personal image!

Fraternities and Sororities

Fraternities and sororities are formal groups of people that are aimed at helping you to organize your schedule and make friend. These organizations are like groups uniting people interested in the same issues. Same thing concerns the subcultures that have certain preferences in music, colors, and clothes. Historically, fraternities were groups of people gathered according to the principle of religion or belief. Nowadays students enter fraternities and sororities to become a part of something greater than a room in the dorms.

When you are in college, you should make friends in order to feel at ease and know that someone can help you when you ask.

My fiance and I both loved this movie when it was released and we unexcited do. When we heard it was coming out on Blu Ray and on top of that 3-D we were beyond wrathful. Well that excitment was crushed when we got home, do it on and were almost given instant headaches from the weak school red and blue 3-d glasses and the fact that no matter how hard we tried to peep it, it honest was nowhere reach 3-d quality. We sat there contemplating whether or not it was honest us or if the 3-d aspect of it sucked that abominable and we came to the conclusion that it was definately the latter. So after a half hour of trying hard to like it we switched it to 2-d (thank god for blu ray for having that option) and saw how in 1080p it was almost 3-d itself.

Needless to say the very next day I went attend to the store I purchased it from and changed it for the regular blu ray version (which was $5 cheaper than the 3-d version and totally worth the assume, 5 stars for that version.) It was very unlit that it did not work out because such an wonderful holiday movie with such astronomical animation would be a no brainer to have as 3-d but unfortunately it impartial is not worth the headache and strain.

I went to peep this movie tonight with a mentally handicapped friend – “Michael” — (from a L’Arche home here in Winnipeg, Canada) . We were the first persons in the theatre for the very first evening showing in this city – and we were the last to leave. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves – enchanted by the movie’s subtleties and happily exhausted by its roller-coaster rides.

Time and again, Michael (who is sensitive, compassionate and with a edifying sense of humor) turned to me in the darkness, smiling in appreciation at the actual same moments I turned to discover his reactions. Each time this happened, it was at a moment in the film when some diminutive detail, perfectly captured through pleasurable ‘cinematography,’ brought moisture to my normally cynical look, and a warm smile to Michael’s innocent face.

Some examples: There is a lone, dusky child on this apparent ‘dream train’ to the North Pole – a girl of about ten or eleven years, and like a painting approach to life, the miraculous technology at work in this film captures the particular sensibilities of this compassionate, gloomy youngster — We inspect dinky mannerisms of someone comfortable with herself in a diagram the other (ten or so) white kids on the allege are not. And the finish is profound — the movie audience, including some children of that same age group, went soundless at such moments in the film.

My friend Michael – who has a ’savant’ genius for perceiving my emotions, and expressing them for me out loud in public — Michael turned to me with a satisfied smile when the girl on the bellow reaches out to possess the hands of the poorest boy, sitting alone in the rear compartment; and later, she hugs two other boys, (one of them the central character) — at their final parting. At that moment I held up a finger to my lips to try to hush Michael, but couldn’t prevent him from saying aloud: “She’s such a sweetheart.” There were murmurs of appreciation in the darkness around us, responding to this innocent sentiment.

There is a sublime moment, on the relieve platform of the arresting verbalize — the Northern Lights glimmering in the distance — when the young girl joins in song with the poorest kid on the lisp (a younger boy from a old home on the “far side of the tracks”) . I admit to being overcome with emotion during this duet (a fair, strong melody with poignant lyrics) – and I blurted out loud to Michael, after the first chorus: “What a fabulous song!” The refrain includes the words “When Christmas comes to town.” [It's a song so first-rate that, with some future 'cover versions' by serious musicians who could do it justice --- this "Christmas Comes to Town" song could, I occupy, deservedly join the cramped list of correct, Christmas 'classics.']

I’d have to agree with anyone who thinks this movie is a diminutive short on state. And yet . . . once you’ve suspended disbelief — beginning with an earth-shattering, Christmas-eve arrival of a steam-puffing, passenger relate on a small-town Michigan street, directly outside the home of the movie’s central character — once we’ve swallowed that premise, the movie disarmingly embraces the child in us, (including our fears) and our reservations vanish without our noticing.

Just as spacious `realistic’ painters, (judge Rembrandt or Vermeer) worked wonders of light & shadow that no mere photograph could ever occupy, so too this computer-animated marvel takes your breath away through an accumulation of itsy-bitsy but acute observations that could never be captured by customary cinematography. Prime examples from the opening scenes:

A shaft of light illuminates the boy’s bedroom, and he is reflected in a chrome, automobile hubcap leaning against a wall; at once we piece his understanding — through the keyhole of his bedroom door – we can notice only the backs and the dressing gowns of mother and father, as they say goodnight to the boy’s young sister, after determining the dwelling of her concept in Santa’s existence – a plan no longer shared by the older brother, whose spy is at the keyhole.

Later, on the articulate, there’s an ravishing discontinuance up of the boy’s face, a microscopic blemish above the pores on his upper suitable cheek; the `camera’ pans in rotation, capturing perfectly, the texture of the boy’s hair, and that of the young dusky girl sitting beside him — subtleties of such perfection one wonders if the novel, artistic accomplishment of “Polar Order” could ever be surpassed.

The film’s last scene, consists entirely of a close-up notion of a cramped, silver bell (of the type associated with sleigh rides) with its attached ‘ribbon’ of red leather. The microscopic bell helps beget the final point about `Belief’ — in things unseen, (or forgotten, and thus inaccessible to some adults) . So simple, so great, so enlightening an image. My friend Michael turned to me at that moment, with a pleasing smile. And we fair shook our heads in apprehension.

—-

Yes, this movie must have SOME shortcomings – one or two moments that don’t quite work as intended by the creators. But true now, in the afterglow, I can’t select what they were. The film was honest too satisfying an experience!

I’m a 57-year-old grandfather who happens to fill that “The Polar Converse” is the first, good Christmas classic in almost 60 years. Not since the recent Kris Kringle “Miracle” movie of 1947, has any film (to my jaded study) so transcended our secular, commercial views of the Holiday Season, with such uplifting and modern reminders of the timeless and correct spirit of Christmas.

Have you ever dreamt about your future college life? What was it like in your dreams? Probably, even the modest person has dreamt about becoming one of the most popular students on campus. Girls want to be followed by envious glances as they go along the corridor. Boys want to be popular and be able to charm the most beautiful girls of the college. It is a typical movie-trick when a shy girl gradually becomes the queen of the college. However, it can happen not in a movie only, it is absolutely real to become a popular person in a college. You will find some tips in this article; probably, they will be useful for you.

The tips for a freshman who dreams about becoming a popular student

If you had some problems at high school, if you were a black sheep, if you felt uncomfortable, you can relax now. Try to understand that the most important merit of college studies is that you have an opportunity to start a new life and to correct your mistakes. Analyze the reasons of our unpopularity at high school. Try not to make the same mistakes again.

Show your confidence in yourself. Besides, you should not only produce an impression that you a self-confident person, you should be one. At the same time, you should not produce an impression of an arrogant person. Try to find the golden mean.

Remember that the first impression is usually very important when people form their opinion about a new person. Try not to spoil this first impression.

Try to make as many acquaintances as you can, the more people you know, the better. You will find real friends among these people. When introducing yourself, try to be polite but not flattering, do not impose yourself on other people, make them interested in your personality.

Try to be active. You will never become a popular person if you sit in your isolated dorm room. Take part in student life; join a fraternity or a sorority, student government or some other student organizations on campus.

Student Life in College: Some Ideas about Greek Letter Societies 3

By Ket Ledford

Greek letter societies unite student who have similar attitude to life in general and to college life in particular. Besides, it is hardly possible to find an organization that would arouse less contradicting opinions, ideas, and comments. Some people think that a fraternity is like a family hearth while there are people who think that it is like a disease breeder that gives opportunity to students vices to come out without any punishment. Though these opinions are opposing, both of them have a right to exist as there is a grain of sense in each of them. This article will provide some details concerning Greek letter organizations so that you could make your own conclusions and form your own opinion about them.

The role of symbols and traditions in the life of a Greek letter society

Symbolic gestures, such as special handshakes are important for the members.

They also use special passwords to communicate and transfer important information.

Fraternity songs are sung by the members.

Though that above mentioned rituals may seem funny and useless for some people, they prove that traditions are observed and respected by the brothers and sisters and it is, definitely, a strong point of sororities.

Also, there can be some material signs of brotherhood or sisterhood, like badges or special clothes (t-shirts, jewelry). These objects usually have a clear sign of a fraternity, for instance, the Greek letters that make up its name.

The weak points of Greek letter societies

Initiation tradition. Initiation ceremony is a legend of the majority of fraternities. However, it can be great fun only for full-right members, not novices. The latter are poor things. You cannot even imagine what some newcomers have to go through to get a badge of a fraternity. The tests can be really humiliating and silly but many students are ready to try such ordeal.

Also, fraternities are notorious for their drunken feasts. However, drinking is prohibited in some fraternities.

EN LA PUTA VIDA is a very well made, polished, lustrous film from Uruguay that begins as what seems to be a comedy and develops into a curious drama – considerable the draw events in life mimic such changes. Director and co-writer Beatriz Flores Silva knows her arrangement around tough subject matter and is able to bring out righteous performances by a very magnificent cast.

Elisa (the very comely and talented Marianna Santangelo) is a hairdresser with two children, born of different fathers, who lives with her mother while trying to convince her latest paramour Garcia (Augusto Mazzarelli) to leave his wife and marry her. She dreams of having her bear Salon in the rich district of Montevideo and will halt at nothing to carry out her goal. When her life falls apart and she is desperate to obtain enough money to begin her Salon, she is invited into the world of snappily money (prostitution) by her best friend Lulu (Andrea Fantoni), and enters the tutelage of Madame Dona Jacqueline (a terrific cameo by Graciela Esuder!) . In her fresh role Elisa encounters the gorgeous but wily Placido (played by Silvestre) who invites her to bed and to Barcelona, Spain with promises that she will construct so noteworthy money that she not only will be able to send money serve to her children, but also have more than enough to commence her Salon in the fanciest fragment of her native Montevideo. Elisa and Lulu join other prostitutes in this promise of wealth and soar to Barcelona – and unexpected white slavery. There she works her corner but is in the presence of a gang of Brazilian transvestites controlled by a mob. She is arrested by a policeman-with-heart Marcelo (the very fine and gifted actor Jose ‘aka Josep’ Linuesa) and when her ‘man’ Placido reveals himself for what he is (a greedy, heartless pimp), Elisa works with Marcelo to show the mob violence of the streets to earn a return to her beloved Montevideo. How the record ends is left to the pleasure of the viewer.

Apparently this fable is based on some degree of fact: in the 1980s to the exhibit many Latin American women have been promised wealth in joining the prostitution business in Spain only to become victims of white slavery. Director Silva is able to invent this rather horrid reality into a yarn that, though sensual, is never in abominable taste: the tale is more well-known that portraying the sex-for-sale scenes. Mariana Santangelo is a very blooming actress and this film is objective the correct vehicle to build her in the ranks of international stardom. The photography in both Uruguay and Spain is handsome, the musical derive is exceedingly well written and evocative, and the extinguish result is a film that opens the door for Uruguayan films to be taken seriously. Highly recommended.

Direction, acting, music, photography, everything in this uruguayan movie works together to conform a miniature work of art. Gorgeous and current interpretations of Uruguayan tango as background music, very apt actors and safe photography with plenty of close-ups. I highly recommend it, regardless of whether the subject interests you. If you indulge in safe cinema, go for it.
