 Now, I am probably about 15 years older than the girls in this movie, and I am a man. Fortunately, I had no trouble empathizing with the four young women who are bound to friendship through their magical bifurcated nether garment(fancy word for pants) — more so than I did with the Sex and the City gang, who are much closer to my age, but still, 180 Degrees different from my gender.

Like Sex and the City, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 works better if you know the characters already through their previous appearances, because you’re already emotionally invested in them. I hadn’t read the young-adult novels by Ann Brashares, but my sister, who is a big fan, filled me in and we determined that this movie is based mostly on the fourth book in the series, with a few changes, so even if you’ve read the books you get some surprises. Don’t think that you are at a loss if you have not read any of the novels, as you are still able to get a good understanding of each character, and the story lines are easy to follow.

The chief problem is the four-part storyline, which, like the first film, finds the main characters separated for the summer and keeping in touch by sending back and forth the “magical pants” remember bifurcated nether garments? that fits all four of them. Be prepared to follow this movie along the four different storylines. This time it’s the summer after freshman year of college for the girls, and while Carmen (America Ferrera) plans to spend the break at home with her pals, the others have bigger plans. Tibby (Amber Tamblyn) sticks around NYU to work at a video store and work on her screenplay, Bridget (Blake Lively) treks off to an archaeological dig in Turkey, and Lena (Alexis Bledel) takes a figure drawing class in Rhode Island.

A pair of secondhand jeans inset with rhinestones plays a major role in “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.” Anyone who saw the first movie or read the novels that inspired the films will be familiar with these well-worn bottoms. They serve as a bond among four girlfriends. Each can magically squeeze into them, although the pals are different sizes and shapes.

Their lives, already starting to pull apart in the first “Pants,” rip apart further in this thoroughly engaging sequel, which has some gems of wisdom to impart but does so gently. With one year of college now over, the girls are on the cusp of becoming full blown grown ups. Holding on to the past is difficult when the future keeps intruding. To remind themselves of what they had together as best friends, they mail the gritty jeans to one another at various summer ports of call.

During their summers, the four women deal with issues of trust, love, guilt, and value. Partially due to their separate adventures, and partially due to their increased independence and individuality, the girls primarily go through their journeys of discovery on their own, and develop their own independence. At times, the increased separation between them is obviously apparent. At others, it becomes an opening for a strong cast of supporting characters/mentors to shine. But at the end of the day, the girls prove that while there are certain things they must discover on their own, they will always be there for each other and to provide that kind of guidance and support that a tight bond can only do.

Most impressing was that these women seemed to come away from their challenges stronger, wiser, and, for the most part, in places better than where they were before. At the end, you get the sense that they actually are in healthy relationships, that they have learned from their mistakes, and that love and friendship have in fact triumphed over selfishness and isolation.

And while there’s an element of fantasy to much of the movie, serious issues, including teen pregnancy and mental illness, lurk beneath the cinematic sheen.

Like its predecessor, “Sisterhood 2″ is based on two radical ideas: namely, that young women’s stories are about more than the pursuit of men, and that happiness isn’t something that you are given, or is something that is external. It is inside you, and you need to find it for yourself.

This is a great teen movie, or even a great mother daughter movie to wind up the Summer with. With a strong cast and engaging story line, “Sisterhood 2″ is a wonderful second spin around the block.

It’s time to exercise your stale disc as a coaster as this edition is definitely worth the double dip. MGM has taken TBS’ dinner and a movie to the next level by including three recipe cards with ravishing Italian meals so that you can do your hold cooking and eat it while watching the movie.

Carried over from the previous edition is the audio commentary by Cher, director Norman Jewison and screenwriter John Patrick Shanley. Both Jewison and Shanley talk about their fascination with death while Cher talks about the importance of costume and how it helps her salvage into character. “Moonstruck: At the Heart of an Italian Family” takes us through the genesis of the film mixing interviews done at the time of filming (Cage and Cher) and original ones (Aiello and Dukakis) . There is broad, behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage as Jewison and Shanley hold us through the film telling several intelligent anecdotes.

A gargantuan flick. Five stars is not enough. Cher & Cage are awesome together. Gardenia & Dukakis (as Cher’s parents) are almost as radiant. The backdrops of Manhattan and Brooklyn witness terrific. Some vast & memorable scenes… 1. Cher meeting Cage for the first time in the bakery basement, 2. Cage expressing his cherish for her the morning after, 3. Dukakis & Mahoney having dinner together & walking home, 4. Cher & Cage, (and her father and his “date”) at the opera, and 5. The family sitting around the kitchen table when husband to-be Aiello shows up. Six Oscar nominations – and three awards. Cher & Dukakis were very deserving and this was easily the best screenplay of the year. How director Norman Jewison didn’t accept the Oscar is beyond me. I ran out and bought the delux ‘06 edition the week it was released. Limited record upgrade – the widescreen is definitely better than the fleshy frame, but there’s no impprovement on the sound… dare I say it’s worse. The music and most of the dialogue sounds like it is standard stereo (perhaps even mono at some points) … but the actual kicker is the background music is so loud at times you can’t hear the character talking. Immense movie, but I feel it deserved better treament on the re-release.

(…) Having taped Jackie Chan Adventures on both Kids WB! and Cartoon Network, and having recently purchased all three JCA DVDs broken-down (never pay retail!) I can WITHOUT A DOUBT say that these episodes are intact. Remarkable like Cartoon Network does, this DVD plays the opening credits, the prove, the ending credits. Kids WB! plays approx. 90 sec. of the episode (the intro), then the opening credits, then the rest of the note, and then the ending credits. For example in the first episode on the first DVD, the opening theme/credits are played, then the 90 sec. intro which takes position in the castle (it is this share which Kids WB! would play before the opening credits, then the scene changes to Uncle’s shop and the rest of the episode continues. Where these DVDs really deviate is by playing one opening credit, all three episodes in “movie format”, then all three “Ask Jackie” spots and finally a combined ending credits. Strangely, though they expend the opening theme music during the slay credits as adopted in later seasons NOT the “Chan is the Man” song originally musty.

All JCA episodes on these DVDs are intact, though why Columbia/Tri-Star (Sony distributes the point to, but not the DVDs) chose to go with the “movie format” instead of unprejudiced a straight-forward Episode 1, Episode 2, etc. and then stopped making the DVDs with Episode 9 is beyond me. I would like to look a Season One, Season Two, Season Three, and Season Four box area (especially since JCA has been picked up for a fifth season), hence my only giving these DVDs three stars each.

I recently purchased both vol 2& 3 of JCA on DVD. To my scare, I discovered they did not include any of the preludes that residence up the main tale before they play the main title theme. The rest of the cartoon is the same, but it seems very abrupt to be thrown into the action with no site up. The fine order is prelude, main theme song, myth. All of the preludes were not included. I’m going to return my copies benefit where I bought them.

VeggieTales launched 10 years ago with this video, which includes two shorter segments. Watching it again this weekend, I was struck by two things. First, how worthy fun this video is. With Jr. they perfectly captured a itsy-bitsy kid and his logic and created some truly silly moments with talk about the slime monster. Although the funniest moment belongs to Daniels chatter as he’s being carried to the lion’s den. The second is how far they and the technology have advance. By today’s standards, the animation is terrible. Their current projects with bigger budgets are great better looking. However, that doesn’t affect the fun at all. I almost guarantee that you’ll have one song or another stuck in your head after watching this.

If there’s a better design to recount kids Bible truths then this series, I certain don’t know what it is. They’re truly titillating for the entire family. Heck, I engage them and I don’t even have kids.

High quality computer animation and Christian themes has made this one of our family’s well-liked videos in only 3 short days! Bob (a tomato) and Larry (a cucumber) are vegetables that our three pre-school age children laugh and scream along with as the characters define there’s no reason to be shy of the murky because “God is bigger than the Boogie-man.” Larry also stars in the title role of “Daniel and the Lion’s Den,” a gargantuan anecdote told in a manner and fashion for young viewers to understand and record to. Given the unique world political climate, Trey Parker and Matt Stone hit the ball factual out of the park with this film. I haven’t laughed so hard so frequently in a theater in years! This was simply incredible.

Too often I’ve been sickened by the overly simplistic mentality that comes from the mouths of determined actors when they exercise their set as public figures to comment on the world affairs. Parker and Stone recount acting notables like Penn, Baldwin, Robbins, Sarandon, and Garofalo as complete idiots, who are as easily herded about by Kim Jong-Il as so many sheep. Matt Damon is practically a troglodyte who is so dead that all his brain can manage is to say his name over and over again.

Like “South Park Bigger, Longer and Uncut,” this film has numerous musical numbers that are musty to punctuate the humor of various scenes. The song “America, F**k Yeah!” once again practically had me on the floor, especially when it was uses a second time but with a mighty slower beat. The level of adult humor and vulgarity here will probably not form this film profitable for cramped kids, and great of the political edginess may be lost on most teenagers. But if there were a category for “Best Comedy Film,” Parker and Stone would both pick up an Oscars, hands down!

Trey Parker and Matt Stone have a unusual ability to blend the nuanced with the definite, to mix cerebral humor with cheap behold gags and fart jokes. If this appeals to you (stare an episode of “South Park” if you are unsure), and you don’t mind having your sacred cows slaughtered and made into taco fillings, this film is a must-see –for repeated viewings.

Mad dictator Kim Jong Il plans to subvert Hollywood and become the megaproliferant of the stars. Who can halt him? Only Team America, a gang of ultra-right soar marionettes who believe Urge Limbaugh is suspiciously liberal. But don’t fret, conservatives: Hollywood pinkos and Michael Moore lift a beating, too. Nothing is sacred to Parker and Stone.

Puppets were a aroused choice for a medium, but they are done hysterically. I don’t know what had me laughing more, the whiskey glass soldered to the team leader’s hand, or the opinion of the splinters and friction fire from marionette sex!

The sound track alone makes this film worth it. “Freedom isn’t Free” could have been a genuine country hit and Kim singing “I’m so ronery” had my wife blowing her cola out her nose in the theater!

If you are straight-laced, have a dreadful sense of humor and can’t admit it, or can’t laugh at yourself, this may not be you’re film. If you’ve got a slightly warped sense of humor, you’ll admire this!
